Google: Find Free MP3s, WMAs, OGGs, and Other Music Files

People leave music files in unprotected directories all of the time. Here’s how to get to them. Come get your free mp3s.

We all need music. If you properly query google, you can find open indexes of music files easily. Here are some hints to get you started.

Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:”index of” “Last modified” mp3

Using this string we are using the “index of” and the inurl commands to attempt to isolate directories only. The mp3 tag on the end tells google to look for mp3s in these open directories. You can change this to wma or ogg if you wish.

You can add additional search criteria to focus your search more.

Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:”index of” mp3 “pearl jam”

This command will find open directories with mp3 files with Pearl Jam. Obviously you can change the band name or file type to better define your search.

Have fun. Share interesting google queries in the comments below.

    ... only if you adversely affect interstate commerce. 8-}

If it is, we better go arrest everyone at Yahoo, Google, DogPile, HotBot, etc. etc.... and their bots, too.

I have almost filled up my iPOD through this method. Sure, you find some damaged and mislabelled files... but you experience that with P2P programs as well.

Can you search a specific site (URL) for MP3s or jpgs or whatever you are looking for?

You can... but the chances of it working is low yield. Most places have index browsing disabled. The reason this google search works is that so many people do not know how to correctly set the permissions.

Ok, I'm lame and basically computer illiterate. I have tried to save by right clicking, then "save as", but with no success. Anyone have any pointers?

      Thanks.

Funny you should mention this actually, as I have just searched my computer for "dsc*.jpg" using Windows search. This shows up all the pictures taken on my Sony Ericsson w800 and all the pictures taken on my Fuji Digital camera...

      question...

how could you search within the txt files for certain things? ie search for the word "hatchet" inside of txt files without knowing the title on the files?
    • site:google.com fox - will find all sites containing the word fox, located within the *.google.com

intitle:fox fire - will find all sites with the word fox in the title and fire in the text

allintitle:fox fire - will find all sites with the words fox and fire in the title, so it's equivalent to intitle:fox
      intitle:fire
    • Hello friends!

allintitle:fox fire - will find all sites with the words fox and fire in the title, so it's equivalent to intitle:fox
      intitle:fire

simple query such as filetype:xls inurl:"email.xls" can be surprisingly effective, finding Excel spreadsheet called email.xls

just query Google for intitle: "curriculum vitae" "phone * * * " "address *" "e-mail". Finding
contact information in the form of names, phone number and email addresses is equally easy
    • I'm sorry guys I know this has been asked but I need a definate answer: Is this illegal? I worry about everything...
    • To searches all your MP3 files try wList for free:

You can use this feature to help organize your music files.
    • cool, is this legal?
    • thank you for your report
    • whenever I try to save the link it says it is a .part file. Does this mean it is not mp3 or i have to click on it or what?
    • omg i luv this sit
    • Great post
      Thanks
